Brake fluid, while often forgotten, is a critical part of the braking system. If overlooked, this can lead to boiling of the brake fluid, resulting in vapour lock and brake failure. Original Citroën used mineral LHM. LHM is immiscible and not compatible with synthetic fluids including DOT4 synthetic brake fluids. The advantages of LHM:
But the boiling point of Dot4 is higher than the one of LHM. This is why there are people who prefer to change their brake system from LHM to Dot4. If you mount Dot4 to the calipers, it is also necessary to replace brake cups of the master cylinder. The original LHM master cylinder was 17.46mm. If you are using an original Dot4 2CV master cylinder, it has an inside diameter of 20mm. The result is that the driver has to put more pressure on the brake pedal to reach the same braking power. For this reason we offer a Dot4 revision kit for 17.46mm master cylinder. With this kit you have the best of both systems:
Always take an original master cylinder to overhaul / change.
